How to Visit Rawa

Getting to Rawa is simple because access is managed exclusively by the island's resorts: you cannot visit for a day trip unless you are a guest. Your journey has two stages, and the second one is arranged for you as soon as you book.
- • 1. Overland: first, make your way to the Mersing jetty in the state of Johor. The drive takes around 4 to 5 hours from Kuala Lumpur, or about 2 to 3 hours from Singapore, so most visitors travel up the day before or leave early in the morning.
- • 2. By sea: the resorts operate their own private speedboats from their office at the Mersing jetty. The boat ride is short, taking just 20 to 30 minutes to reach the island. This boat transfer is organised as part of your accommodation package when you book your stay.
It is mandatory to book a package directly with Rawa Island Resort or Alang's Rawa in order to visit the island — there is no walk-in option at the jetty.

There are only two places to stay on the island, and choosing between them is easy once you know the vibe you are after.
Rawa Island Resort: the larger and more established resort, perfect for families and couples. It offers a range of seafront chalets and rooms with modern amenities, along with a restaurant, a bar and a spa — and it is home to the famous water slides.

Rawa is an east-coast island and is generally closed to visitors during the peak of the north-east monsoon, which typically runs from November to February, due to rough seas.
- • Book well in advance: with only two resorts, accommodation on Rawa fills up very quickly, especially at weekends and during Malaysian and Singaporean public holidays, when rooms can be reserved months ahead. Booking your stay well in advance is essential.
- • All-inclusive packages: remember that a visit to Rawa is usually booked as a full-board package, covering both accommodation and all meals. This makes the trip very easy and hassle-free, with no surprises once you are on the island and no need to worry about finding restaurants.
- • No public access: you cannot visit the island for a day trip unless you are a guest of one of the two resorts, so plan to stay at least one night — longer if you can.
