Port Dickson

Port Dickson has a strong, visible military presence and history: it hosts several army camps and is home to the Malaysian Army's main training centre. This past is best explored at the Army Museum (Muzium Tentera Darat). This well-kept open-air museum is a key attraction, displaying decommissioned military vehicles — including tanks and helicopters — and offering insight into the history of the Malaysian armed forces, with a recreated communist tunnel from the Malayan Emergency era among its highlights.

Thanks to its great proximity to Kuala Lumpur, Port Dickson is one of the easiest coastal destinations to reach.

PD offers a wide range of accommodation for every budget. The town is especially known for its resort complexes offering villas on stilts, such as Lexis Hibiscus, famous for its hibiscus-flower formation and a private pool in every room. There are also many large hotels and serviced apartments with kitchenettes, making it a popular choice for families and large groups.

Properties line the waterfront from Teluk Kemang to Blue Lagoon, most with the sea or a pool just steps from the room and some with direct beach access. Midweek rates are noticeably softer, while the big resorts often fill up at weekends. For families, an apartment with a kitchenette remains the best compromise: cook up fresh market produce and spread out without constraints.

Being a coastal town, Port Dickson is an ideal place for fresh, affordable seafood. Numerous seafood restaurants line the coast, particularly around Teluk Kemang and Lukut, serving classic Malay seafood dishes such as grilled fish (ikan bakar), chilli crab and butter prawns. Dining while watching the sunset is a popular experience.

Most of these restaurants are big, lively roadside halls where you pick your fish on ice before it goes on the grill. Prices remain very reasonable for generous portions, and the service is fast and laid-back — the perfect ending to a beach day.
